Mountain Shots

We like mountains – for the exercise, for the exhilaration of success, and for the opportunities they give for satisfying and sometimes impressive photos. Here are the spots and shots we most want to remember, most recent first. (In later years, we've relaxed the 'mountains' criterion a bit, to cover cliffs, gorges, islands and hills ...).

The sets are indexed below, by year. There are two 3-column tables:

• Table 1 shows the primary targets of the European Alps and Dolomites
• Table 2 is for all of the other great places we've walked

Logically enough, the bulk of our serious walking was done later in life, when Roger could make more time available amidst the hurly-burly of overseas travel for conferences and occasional assignments, and Linda could make more time available to join him. Roger turned 50 shortly after the Gallery starts in 1999, and Linda was 3 years younger.

The most significant of the areas and walks are in bold-faced type.

Cameras:

• Pre 2007, we used a Pentax MZ-50 wet-chemicals SLR with a 28-80mm zoom. The shots have been scanned.
• From May 2007 to Jun 2013, we used a Canon DSLR 400D and a Sigma 18-200mm zoom.
  (For us, the lower quality inherent in a lens of that kind is more than compensated for by the flexibility it offers).
• From May 2014 to Jan 2022, Linda used a Canon 700D with a Canon 18-200 lens.
• From May 2014 to May 2018, Roger used a low-end Canon 1100D with the old Sigma zoom.
• From May 2018, Roger has a mid-range Canon 80D with a better Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 lens.
• From Mar 2022, Linda is using a Pentax OM-D 5 MkIII, mirrorless, with an Olympus 14-150mm (= c.25-200mm) f/4.0-5.6 zoom lens.
