The Winfield Line

This page is part of Irene Gladys Whiteman's web-site.

It contains the family-tree of her Great-Grandparents in her mother's mother's line. Her family line from her parents downwards is on a separate page.

William WINFIELD, b. ?, d. ?
[I can't remember how we postulated that Robert's father was a William – although there are plenty of them]
I (or we, including Anne?) postulated the William who:
m. Elizabeth Winrow, b. ?, d. ?
m. 02 Jan 1804, Spondon Derb.
and had at least 1 child: Robert Winfield, b. 1821/22 (i.e. 17/18 years after the marriage)
But Bill Winfield (1.6.2 below) c. 1970 postulated the William who:
m. Sarah ?
and had at least 3 children: John, Richard and Robert Winfield, b. 1821/22
Bill didn't have much evidence either.
But St Werburgh's Church, 4mi east of Derby, was common to this William, and to Robert in 1848 when he was married there; and to Robert's son Nathan, who told Bill that he sang in the choir there (c. 1870?).
It was once famous as the church where Samuel Johnson married in 1753. It was declared redundant in 1990.
(The church may now be more famous because it's only 200m north of Brian Clough Way).

The starting-point for this page came from Roger's notes from his conversations with his mother Rene, and a number of birth, marriage and death certificates that I acquired in the 1990s. A vast amount of the detail was provided in 2006, by my cousin on the Russell side, Anne Kratzmann in Kingaroy Qld (who is an absolute whizz at genealogy). The line of 1.6 Nathan Winfield, incl. 1.6.2.3.3. Frank Hartman, was much-expanded by Frank in 2016.
