Introduction

This document contains the pre-reading required of participants in the Workshop on Electronic Publishing.

Absolutely Required Pre-Reading

This Workshop assumes considerable familiarity with the Internet, and services available over the Internet. It is therefore very important that candidates arrive at the Workshop with an adequate understanding of basic Internet technology and its use.

All candidates must ensure that they are familiar with all of the following:

• metaphors underlying the concept of information infrastructure
• the Internet as a postal service
• The Technology of the Internet and the Web (first five sections only, not the material on defamation!)
• a description of virtual neighbourhoods
• a summary of current Internet issues

Strongly Recommended Pre-Reading

The following additional pre-reading is recommended for candidates who wish to get the maximum possible benefit from the Workshop:

• for Session 1:
