  1. E-Business, E-Commerce and ESD
  2. Electronic Publishing
  3. The Legal Underpinnings: Copyright
  4. Progress in Electronic Publishing

The following readings are recommended to accompany the presentation:

14:45-15:00 - Question-and-Answer Session

15:00-15:30 - Group Breakout Session

  1. Consider the kinds of Internet resources that you use. What business models do the publishers of those resources depend upon?
  2. What tools do you personally use when searching for resources on the Internet? What are the good features of these tools? And what inadequacies do they have?
  3. What kinds of resources would your organisation like to make available, and to whom? You should avoid restricting your thoughts only to documents.
  4. To what extent does your organisation depend on copyright law to protect its interests? And to what extent does your organisation depend on access to materials in which copyright is held by others?

15:30-15:45 - Mini-Case 2: Joe Blogowski

Joe Blogowski gathers small images that are useful for improving presentation graphics and brightening up newsletters and greetings cards. He now has a substantial collection, and decides to start a business that will sell sets of images over the Internet.

What electronic publishing tools would be of relevance to Joe's business?

What challenges is his business likely to confront?

15:45-16:00 - Groups report back in Plenary Session
