The Lower Capelin Line 1 – The Children of
Lorenzo Perin / Capelin (1837-1915) and Catterina Cescon (1842-1881)

This is one of two lower-level pages of the Capelin family, which arrived in Australia in 1881.

Lorenzo Perin / Capelin (1837-1915)
m1. Catterina Cescon (1842-1881)
Five children, of whom only 1. Domenico and 4. Marietta survived their first year.
Expeditioners.
Catterina survived Port Breton, but d. in childbirth in Noumea en route to N.S.W.
Lorenzo, with two young children, shortly afterwards remarried another Expeditioner who had been widowed.

This page provides information on Lorenzo and Catterina's 2 children and 23 grandchildren, and their descendants.

To find other pages within this section, go to the Capelin index-page.

  1. Marietta / Maria Lucia Perin/Capelin (1867-1954)
    Maria was b. 12 Oct 1867, Ghirano
Maria is shown as 13 in Appendix 1 of Thompson, i.e. b.c.1867.
(She is shown in the Stud Book p. 76 as b. 1874 – which is almost certainly wrong, given that she married in 1886).
    b. Brugnera, 10km E of Orsago
Note that she shared the name Maria Spinaze nee Capelin with her younger half-sister, child 3 of the second family
Expeditioner, at the age of 12-14.
    m. Giovanni SPINAZE (1852-1932)
    m. 12 Jan 1885, Parramatta
Giovanni was b. 1851, in Codogne
Marietta was shown as 18 (of course), but may have actually been 17y3mo, to Giovanni's 33-34.
Giovanni was the younger brother of Lorenzo Spinaze (1844-93), Linda's G2F.
    They had 11 children, b. 1887-1911.
In 1910, they moved to Pomona (25km west of Noosa, south Qld).
Giovanni d. 2 Nov 1932, at Middle Creek via Pomona.
Marietta d. 3 Apr 1954 in nearby Cooroy, so aged 86-87, buried Pomona.
[[Odd Aside: Pomona House was the name of the Paling's property in Thornleigh (NW Sydney, north of Parramatta).
[[Lorenzo's family was allocated to the Palings' property, so Marietta was there 1881-84/85, aged 14-17.
[[Pomona was originally called Pinbarren Sidings, but was renamed in 1906after Giovanni and Maria arrived there.
(Note: Despite the similarities in names, this Maria Capelin and Giovanni Spinaze are not Linda Spinaze's line.
Linda's line is this Maria's 19-years younger half-sister – also Maria, and Giovanni's nephew Giuseppe Spinaze)
This segment reflects The Stud Book pp. 224-225, but goes into deeper detail only in some specific cases.
Note that the Stud Book also has good photos on pp.226-227.

Acknowledgements

These Capelin pages were originally established on the basis of the records of Ray Spinaze (1914-2006).

Some has been added from the Stud Book (de Stefani & Craven 1980), but some has yet to be captured.

A great deal was added once Steve Capelin tracked me down and pointed me to his substantial Capelin page.

Further information was acquired:
