The Journal of Electronic Commerce (JEC) will begin its publication in the Summer of 1996 as the first scholarly journal devoted exclusively to advancing the understanding and practice of electronic commerce. JEC will publish papers presenting approaches of multiple disciplines to offer an integrated view of the field. Management information systems, computer science, economics, and sociology are only some of these disciplines.
Electronic commerce is the sharing of business information, maintaining business relationships, and conducting business transactions by means of wide-area computer networks. The area is undergoing explosive growth and calls for rethinking of many aspects of commerce and of societal relationships, as well as for the adaptation and application of several essential information technologies.
The Journal will appear quarterly and will maintain stringent refereeing standards. Empirical and interpretive papers, espousing multiple methodologies and perspectives, as well as paradigmatic designs will be published. Some of the principal areas of the Journal's interest will be:
The Journal will be run by a prestigious Editorial Board of experts from the academic and business worlds.
The Editor-in-Chief, Vladimir Zwass, is a Professor of Computer Science and Management Information Systems at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University. Dr. Zwass is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Management Information Systems, a leading journal in the field. He is the author of five books and a number of papers in various journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Zwass has received several grants and consulted for a number of major corporations. He is a frequent speaker to national and international audiences.
The publisher of the Journal will be M.E. Sharpe, the publisher of the Journal of Management Information Systems and of many other scholarly journals.
Contributors are invited to submit manuscripts for publication in the Journal of Electronic Commerce. To be considered for inclusion in the first annual issue, the papers should be submitted by January 31, 1996. Instructions for authors are available.
