Bunhybee Grasslands is a 49 hectare / 120 acre conservation property 35km south of Braidwood, in southern N.S.W.
You can follow through the internal links, or you may find it easier to use the Site-Map.
Parlour Grasslands is the adjacent property to the south of Bunhybee. It was purchased by NCT at the same time as Bunhybee, and is up for sale, subject to a similar Conservation Agreement, and a similar Plan of Management.
It has many similarities to Bunhybee, but the broad central water-line has denser grasses. NCT has arranged with the neighbouring grazier to the south, Bryce McMurtrie, to agist 150 ewes with lambs on Parlour sometime between mid-May and August.
We grabbed the opportunity on 10 May 2009 to take some photographs of Parlour. The intention is that we follow up (a) after the stock leave the property, and (b) in mid-May 2010, in order to see what impact the grazing has. We hope that this provides us with some insights into whether and how we use grazing as part of the management strategy for Bunhybee.
We used the Photo-Point method, as described below. But first come some general observations and a couple of additional shots of areas somewhat different from those covered by the Photo-Points.
The uppermost part of Parlour, the eastern lot, has suffered some water erosion. We only went to the southern and western lots this time. The majority of that area is a wide waterline with rather thicker grass than what's on most of Bunhybee. There are modest amounts of thistle and fleabane, and the usual flatweeds, and some blackberry, particularly towards the lower and narrower end of waterline, within 150m of Jerrabattgulla Rd. But generally it has even less in the way of weeds than Bunhybee did before we started our weed management program. There are many instances of pig-damage, in a couple of cases more extensive than on Bunhybee.
Unlike on Bunhybee, the waterline contained no pools, except for a couple towards the bottom end. We surmise that the property-owner above may have put more dams in, and the future flows down the water-line may be less than they were in the recent past.

The Photo-Points selected were the electricity poles running NW to SE across the property, and supplemented by a control, which we did at the last electricity pole on Bunhybee.
Each Photo-Point on Parlour uses four shots (context, near, middle and far), on a S to SSW bearing, with enough information to find the location and bearing each time, and to enable essentially the same framing and focal-length are achieved each time. We've used our experimental addition to the standard – a vertical shot at each of the 0m, 2m, 5m and 15m points.
