Nola Daniel

I remember Bundy High as a school that provided a quality education. The staff and student cohort have gone on to achieve many and varied things. The reunion will give me the opportunity to thank the people that have had an influence on my life and the achievements that I been able to attain.

After Kelvin Grove Teachers College, where I specialised in secondary art, I married Loren Willis, a fellow art student. We had six children (Brendan 36, Bronson 34, Bianca 31, Burton 30, Bree 24, Bonnie 22). Only one of them has gone on to be a teacher. Loren and I have 7 grand children and we both enjoy this aspect of our lives.

We raised our family in Brisbane. After 20 years we moved to Gladstone where I was Deputy Principal of Gladstone State High School for 10 years and my husband was Art HOD at Toolooa State High School. The present Principal of Bundy High is Raylene Fysh who was Deputy Principal at Toolooa for a period of time.

I retired but couldn’t settle in retirement and after some teaching contracts in Gladstone, I was offered a three week teaching contract in art and home economics at Baralaba. It was a fantastic experience and I felt that I could make a difference in their lives. I have now been here over 5 years and teach preschool through to years 10. It has a high indigenous population with many students travelling by bus from Woorabinda.

I travel home to Calliope at weekends, a two hour drive. Loren retired from teaching a few years ago and has plenty of things to keep him occupied. I think I still have a few more years in me.
