Ian Nixon


Ian spent the years from 1967 to 1969 at the University of Qld where he spent too much time rowing, playing football and socializing.

In 1970 Ian attended Kelvin Grove Teachers College and graduated as a High School Teacher. In 1971 he taught at Cairns State High and Trinity Bay State High before moving back to Bundaberg and teaching at Kepnock State High.

In March 1973 he started a career with the Endeavour Foundation which was to last until 1986 when the Education Department took over the Endeavour Foundation's Special Schools. During this time Ian taught at schools in Bundaberg,Townsville and Mackay. He spent the years from 1986 to 2002 with the Education Department as Principal of KewarraSpecial School in Mackay.

In December 2002 Ian resigned from Education Queensland to do something different.Since that time Ian has worked as a Farm Hand, a Merchandiser and is now working in a Westpac Call Centre and loving it.

Ian has been married to Jil l(nee Jordan) since 1970 and they have three wonderful daughters - Danita, Tiani and Bianca. Danita lives in Cleveland where Ian and Jill now reside, while Tiani lives in Melbourne and Bianca is presently in London. Ian and Jill have two bright and cheeky granddaughters - Summer(aged 4) and Jazz(aged 2). Their mother is Danita and they live around the corner from Jill and Ian.

Ian's passion is cycling. In 2001 he cycled across the Simpson Desert and the Flinders Ranges and each year tries to do one major ride. This year it will be the Cycle Qld Event from Port Douglas to Mission Beach. Ian's aim is to still be cycling at 90.
