I attended Bundaberg State High for only Years 11 and 12 after doing Year 9 and 10 at Gin Gin and my primary schooling at Boolboonda, near Mt. Perry. From Year 12, I received a two-year teaching scholarship to Kedron Park Teachers’ College. It was here that I met my future wife, Helen. I commenced teaching at Gin Gin, transferred the first day of term to Bundaberg West and then on to Kumbia in the South Burnett district.

Helen and I married in December 1970 and, since the beginning of 1971, I've worked as a principal of a number of state schools in southeast Queensland. These include one-teacher schools at Fairdale, (near Wondai) Mt. Whitestone (Lockyer Valley) and two teacher schools at Lundavra (Goondiwindi area), Russell Island (Moreton Bay) and Ashwell near Rosewood. It was when I was principal of a larger school at Canungra that I really got to know Major Ross Eastgate and his lovely wife, Anne, as Ross was based at the Land Warfare Centre and their delightful children attended my school.

From Canungra, now with 3 children, we transferred to Mundubbera in the north Burnett region and back to Jimboomba (between Logan City and Beaudesert) where I have been principal since 1990.

Currently, we have 1000 students from Preschool to Year 7 and some 70+ staff members, my wife Helen being one of them.

During my career, I have had the pleasure of crossing paths with fellow principals Bill Hayworth, Jeff Sheppard (retired secondary school principal) and attended a conference where one on the presenters was Ken Gilbert. Jeff and Ken both taught at Bundaberg High during our time.

Two of our children are teachers and the other an electrician/instrument fitter – and we have two lovely granddaughters.

It has been a delight to read what everyone has been doing over the past forty years. I look forward to catching up with you all later in this year.
